Dear Friends of Open Sky,
Have you ever set out to begin a new project, felt it was going well and in fact, even thought you had just about completed it....just to lose the whole thing in cyberspace? Aaargh...I am guessing the answer is sadly, yes. The interesting thing is when I shared (okay, I'll be honest and say I probably whined a bit...lol), my friend reminded me that perhaps there was a reason this newsletter was not supposed to go out last night. The moment her wise words met my ears, I knew she was right. And I am still waiting for "the rest of the story."
This Saturday, August 29nd, our For Love of Nature show will be
waiting to enamor you from 1:00 to 5:00 pm with SIX NEW ARTPIECES including 4 Cloudscapes from nMel Jackson, one never-before-seen Abstract from German artist
Marlis Jermutus and a larger than life Waterscape.
In fact, since our new pet tortoise Tukie has been such a hit, I will bring him in to lead gallery tours once again. (No, I am not kidding.)

For Love of Nature
Nine Oregon students & Four California artists explore the power of nature to heal, enliven and inspire with painting, drawing, photography & sculpture. Students reveal how daunting it is to inherit the environment in its' present state and how motivated they feel to make changes.
California artists from four points of view explore nature and environmental impacts from mining sites, private gardens, historical references and even wistful memories from prison.

Mel's current works, which he calls The Language of Clouds, are created with a simple kitchen sponge and a deliberately limited palette. Class on
September 30th will include a full demonstration.
His work is less about executing a predetermined image and more about discovery. Loose gestures dissolve into simple passages of light, balancing spontaneity with purpose.
Join us as Mel demonstrates and teaches this technique that artists and non-artists alike can easily learn.
Mel Jackson is a graduate of California College of the Arts and has taught watercolor and painting classes in Redding for many years. His works have been exhibited in galleries throughout the North State. He is known for his thoughtful, conceptual approach to art.
